PA HUNTING LICENSES

NON RESIDENT

The non resident hunting license was the first hunting license issued in Pennsylvania. I have yet to see a 1901-1916 non-resident hunting license. I only know of a handful of canvas non resident licenses. The one in this collection is a 1923. The non resident licenses follow the resident licenses in that the 1924 and 1925 are aluminum. There is a mystery surrounding the 1926 non resident license. A 1926 has never been found. However, I have seen a 1924 non resident license with matching papers dated 1926. I have also seen a canvas non resident dated 1924. This leads one to believe that the licenses may have been used from one year to the next. This may make sense as not many of these licenses were sold. The 1927 to 1941 are metal and the 1942 and up are cardboard. The 1942 non resident is a scarce license as not many were issued as a result of WW II. Early canvas are valued at $1,000 and up. Non resident metal, 1924-1941, can range from $60 to $800. The cardboard licenses,1942-current, are $5 to $125.
